چکیده
The PSEC4 custom integrated circuit was designed for the recording of fast waveforms for use in largearea time-of-flight detector systems. The ASIC has been fabricated using the IBM-8RF 0:13 μm CMOS process. On each of the six analog channels, PSEC4 employs a switched capacitor array (SCA) of 256 samples deep, a ramp-compare ADC with 10.5 bits of DC dynamic range, and a serial data readout with the capability of region-of-interest windowing to reduce dead time. The sampling rate can be adjusted between 4 and 15 Gigasamples/second (GSa/s) on all channels and is servo-controlled on-chip with a low-jitter delay-locked loop (DLL). The input signals are passively coupled on-chip with a 3 dB analog bandwidth of 1.5 GHz. The power consumption in quiescent sampling mode is less than 50 mW/chip; at a sustained trigger and a readout rate of 50 kHz the chip draws 100 mW. After fixed-pattern pedestal subtraction, the uncorrected integral non-linearity is 0.15% over a 750 mV dynamic range. With a linearity correction, a full 1 V signal voltage range is available. The sampling timebase has a fixed-pattern non-linearity with an RMS of 13%, which can be corrected for precision waveform feature extraction and timing. & 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Serial-Link Transceiver Based on 8-GSa/s A/D and D/A Converters in 0.25-μm CMOS
This paper presents a transceiver that uses a 4-bit flash ADC for the receiver and an 8-bit current-steering DAC for the transmitter. The 8-GSa/s converters are 8-way time interleaved. Digital compensation reduces the input offset of the ADC comparators to less than 0.6 LSB, improves the accuracy of the interleaved sampling clocks to within 10 ps, and reduces systematic coupling noise to less t...
متن کاملMonolithic Multi-channel GSa/s Transient Waveform Recorder for Measuring Radio Emissions from High Energy Particle Cascades
A number of particle astrophysics initiatives to exploit radio emission from high energy particle cascades require highfrequency sampling of antenna array signals. Nyquist-limited sampling of GHz frequency radio signals for an antenna array may be accomplished by commercially available test units. However, these technologies are incompatible with the size, power and cost constraints of long-dur...

Future detectors for high luminosity particle identification and ultra high energy neutrino observation would benefit from a digitizer capable of recording sensor elements with high analog bandwidth and large record depth, in a cost-effective, compact and low-power way. A first version of the Buffered Large Analog Bandwidth (BLAB1) ASIC has been designed based upon the lessons learned from the ...
متن کاملDevelopment of Forward-wave Directional Couplers Loaded by Periodic Shunt Shorted Stubs
In this paper a new procedure for designing forward-wave directional couplers using periodic shunt short circuited stubs is proposed. A new type of cell using these stubs, which enlarge the phase difference between even- and odd modes of a uniform microstrip coupled line is introduced. Using the equivalent circuit model for even- and odd-modes of the proposed cell, the elements of the ABCD tra...

A waveform digitizing system is developed at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) based on the Domino Sampling Chip (DSC), a fast analog memory fabricated in CMOS technology. The principle of operation, the test system and the performance of the chip are described. Sampling frequencies of 1.2 GHz are generated on chip; the analog waveform is stored in 128 sampling capacitors. The main parameters o...
